The mixture that saved snacks for me

This is not a post for the meal preppers. This is a post for the adventurers. The scroungers. The creative thrill-seekers. That’s because this snack mixture is not a recipe at all, but a lifestyle.

I have always been equal parts creature of habit and experimenter. I am also not a lunch person, therefore I tend to need more substantial snacks in the afternoon that feel balanced, yet aren’t so boring that I start craving sugar.

Enter, the “Mixture”. I have to confess this came from my mom, who is my source for all creative ideas.

The mixture is the magic, and can be eaten plain or added to almost anything. Savory or sweet, you choose.

The idea is not to have any sort of recipe in mind, but to scrounge around your cupboards and pantry for the remnants of previous single snacks and combine them together. From many, one. A homemade trail mix of sorts that uses up the rest of that bag of chips, those weird nuts, a few dried cranberries, and chopped (almost stale) chocolate.

Its an opportunity to clean out your snack drawer while creating something truly unique. This is my most recent version below, but I’m excited to try more and perhaps theme them?

Ingredients from my drawers and pantry:

  1. Macadamia nuts (raw)

  2. Cashews (raw)

  3. Walnuts (raw)

  4. Brazil nuts (just a few!) (raw)

  5. Dried mulberries (Navitas is a great brand)

  6. Semi-sweet chocolate chips (Lily’s!)

  7. Freeze-dried pineapple

  8. Coconut flakes
