List #83 - 5 words I’d like to use less in my daily vocabulary

In my quest to become more competent and raise my language standards this year, I have identified five key words that I aim to remove almost entirely from my vocabulary. There is no judgement here, as I currently use these words ALL THE TIME. However, I realize when I do use them, that my sentence doesn’t feel as strong and that they often degrade my point. This is going to be a long practice, but here we go.

  1. Like

A classic one. Removing it is so hard, but I need to do better.

  2. Awesome

Awesome actually means to inspire awe. Is a latte really that awesome? If it is, please tell me where to get one.

  3. Literally

Like many others, I use literally in its improper form all the time. This is a big one to fix.

  4. Amazing

Very much in the same vein as “awesome”. Oftentimes, I use it to confirm something instead of just saying “agreed” or “that sounds good”.

  5. “One hundred percent”

Technically not a single word, but the phrase could easily be replaced with “I agree”.
